While I completely agree that Chris and Tabitha have made a lot of dumb choices and need help getting their life in order, I can also relate to Chris's attitude -- feeling like he has to defend his choices and to defend his right to make choices, even the bad ones. He wouldn't have to defend anything if his mother hadn't raised a stink about his lifestyle in the first place. Maybe in the long run it's a good thing that she did, as it got him on the Dr. Phil show and got him and Tabitha the help they need, but I'm just saying I understand how his mother's attitude made him feel the need to explain everything. His mother may have meant well and wanted the best for her son, but she stepped way over the line in judging the lifestyle choices of her adult son. I'm glad Dr. Phil pointed that out to her at the end.
It does hit home on a personal note, because although I've never gotten into drugs or alcohol or gotten myself homeless because of bad choices, my mom is a lot like Chris's mom, in judging all the little choices I make in taking care of my own life. I know she just wants the best for me, but I often have to tell her (indirectly, because otherwise it would hurt her feelings) that it's my life and my right to decide what's best for me.
